What a revision log tells a supplier

A clear revision history is the cheapest way to get comparable quotes and fewer surprises at the first article.

Drawings change, and that is fine

A product drawing goes through many revisions before tooling. What causes trouble is not the change itself but a change nobody can see. A supplier quoting revision C while you build revision E is a common and expensive mistake.

What we put in every log

  • A letter for every released revision, never reused

  • The date and a one-line description of what changed

  • Clouds and triangles on the drawing where it changed

  • The name of the person who approved it

Why suppliers like it

With a clean log, a supplier can see in a minute what moved since the last quote, price only the difference and flag risks early. It also makes first article inspections faster, because everyone measures against the same sheet.

It is a small habit. On a programme with three suppliers and six revisions, it is often the difference between a calm launch and a frantic one.
